|The Department of Postal Services has responded positively to the request of the Universal Postal Union (UPU) to issue a "World Stamp", to promote philately. This stamp will be issued on October 9th 1998, the anniversary of the "World Post Day".|
The logo of the "World Stamp" is that of the World Association for the Development of Philately operating under the auspices of the UPU. It emphatically depicts the close cooperation between the UPU and philatelic organizations like AIJP, ASCAT, FIP and IFSDA which operate to promote and develop philately. The inclusion of these partners in a triangle reflects the close cooperation existing between the Postal Services, the stamp collectors and the stamp dealers.
The importance of the issue of the "World Stamp" by almost all the countries of the world is to prove that the stamp has acquired an indisputable universality out of its daily use on the one hand, and on the other the stamp has turned into a world of art, a "microwork of painting", through which the history, culture and art of a country unfold.
