Children's Toys

Greece
The Toys, Games and Childhood Section of the Benaki Museum was founded in 1991, following a donation of Maria Argyriadis. The collection includes approximately 30.000 childhood toys and useful artifacts from Greece and wider Greek world, dating from antiquity to mid-20th century. It also comprises European toys of the 18th, 19th, and 20th centuries, as well as toys from the US, Africa and countries of the East.

The collection is enriched with magazines, archival material and photographs, as well as text books, children's literature books as well as books on the history of toys, which make up an entire library.

The collection will for a separate museum annex of the foundation, which will be housed in the listed mansion of Vera Kouloura, in Paleo Faliro, owned by the Benaki Museum.
