Europa 1970

Cyprus
The motif shown on the 1970 Europa stamps is designed by Dr. Louis Le Brocquy and represents a flaming sun composed of interwoven strands, symbolizing the International cooperation in postal matters which is the purpose of C.E.P.T (Conference of European Postal and Telecommunications Administrations).

The C.E.P.T. was formed 11 years ago (in 1959) by 19 members under the auspices of the Council of Europe, for the purpose of simplifying and unifying their postal systems as an essential preliminary to the ultimate goal of a "United Europe". Since then there has been an annual issue of Europe C.E.P.T. stamps. This year Cyprus is issuing three values in the Europa stamps series - 20, 30, and 150 mils.
